How a Non-Inverter Works

A non-inverter compressor has two states: on or off. When the room is warm it runs at 100%. Once the setpoint is reached it shuts off completely. When the temperature drifts up, it kicks back to 100% again.

All that stopping and starting burns energy, because every restart draws a large surge of current. Think of a car crawling stop-go through traffic — the fuel consumption is terrible.

How an Inverter Works

An inverter compressor varies its speed continuously. It runs fast while the room is warm, then slows down as the room approaches the setpoint, but never switches off entirely.

The result is steadier cooling with no repeated current surges. Think of the same car cruising at a constant speed on the highway.

Non-inverter if the room is used rarely or the budget is genuinely tight.
